Rutland Medical Surgery
Glasgow
This state of the art Medical Surgery is located on what was part of the Glasgow Garden Festival site and before that, a galvanising plant associated with Glasgow’s Shipbuilding Heritage. Rutland Surgery was previously located in nearby cramped, outdated facilities. The new facility has a contemporary welcoming appearance and a light spacious waiting area. The interior design concept takes inspiration from the history of the site. The participation of the Patients and Doctors was key to understating their practical needs and aspirations. The massing, fenestration and diverse use of friendly materials were carefully considered to ensure a non- institutional character to this public building.
The new facility is BREEAM ‘excellent’ rated and incorporates many features designed to enhance the amenity of staff and patients including daylighting to all public areas, reuse of timber from existing trees for sculptures, furniture and wall features and artwork inside and outside the building. The development extends to approximately 600 sq m on two storeys and incorporates 4 Consultants rooms, Training room, Nurse room, Conference facilities and separate self contained offices.
