This 90 bedroom Ramada Encore Hotel is situated within the Chatham Maritime Historic Dockyard and has been a catalyst project for the dockyard masterplan regeneration programme. The hotel is immediately adjacent to the historic Chatham Mast Pond (Scheduled Ancient Monument) and Grade A Listed Boathouse. Attention to detail in the design of the hotel’s facades was paramount and the use of traditional, sustainable green oak rainscreen cladding reflects the heritage and use of timber in the Dockyard. The Practice worked closely with the technical advisors at the Timber Research and Development Association (TRADA) to develop greater expertise in detailing this sensitive natural material. The Practice successfully negotiated with the local Planning Authority (Medway Council) to satisfy all the onerous Planning Conditions associated with this development.
