Fort William Healthcare Centre
Blar Mor, Fort William
The Fort William healthcare centre brings together, under one roof, the towns three existing GP Practices and numerous primary care services including:
Community Nursing, Health Visiting, Podiatry, Dentistry, Speech and Language, Learning Disabilities, Paediatric Physio and Occupational Therapy, Dieticians, Mental and Child Health, Physiotherapy, Social Work, Homecare and visiting Opthalmology clinics.
The logical solution to the space planning of the building was to create a central common mall area or “Hub” from which the main activities spiral. Upon entering the building, the “Hub” becomes a main decision point for the visitor, providing direct and visual connections to the reception for each of the departments/ GP practices.
Externally the materials composition is bold and takes inspiration from the surrounding landscape. The stone detailing is designed to create a robust aesthetic. Ben Nevis is the backdrop to the facility and the bespoke stain glass design within the waiting areas reflect the geometry of the mountains.
