Office to Residential Conversion
Carrick Street, Ayr
This adaptive reuse project in Ayr transforms three upper floors of underutilized commercial space into 18 residential units—15 two-bedroom and 3 one-bedroom apartments. The goal is to reinforce Ayr’s town centre as a dynamic, well-connected urban hub through sustainable redevelopment of a well-connected site. This scheme is not simply about housing; it is a catalyst for urban regeneration, blending past and present to create a sustainable, future-facing living environment.
The plans optimise the available space while preserving the integrity of the existing structure. They create appropriately sized dwellings and a shared lobby with communal storage, bicycle facilities, and lift access, enhancing functionality and convenience. The intervention is subtle yet purposeful, with minimal external alterations—only six new windows—ensuring the building retains its character while improving spatial efficiency and natural light penetration.
