Linenhall

Chester

The Linenhall development site is within the Chester City Conservation Area, and adjacent to a significant area of Georgian Listed Buildings. The design proposals seek to emulate the simple, classical proportions and restrained detailing of Georgian Architecture but with a contemporary interpretation. The site is located to the eastern edge of the city centre which is characterised by a Roman and Medieval street pattern. The city centre comprises the famous Chester Rows, which have a strong rhythm of narrow frontages with a consistency of scale and palette of materials.

The proposals have been influenced by this urban form and seek to achieve an appropriate urban design response for this part of Chester. The accommodation is arranged around three generous courtyards with the central one being a part of a new public route connecting the Georgian Streets to the Medieval City Centre. We successfully achieved a Full Planning Approval for this large project which comprises circa 550 student bed spaces in a mixture of cluster and studio flats, landscaped courtyard amenity decks and associated support accommodation.
